Cl2 + H20 -----> Cl- +ClO- + 2H+ URGENT HELP!?
It's an example of Le Chatelier's principle. Adding sodium hydroxide removes the product H+ by the reaction H+ + OH- --> H2O. This moves the equilibrium in the forward direction.
